Goin' Mobile!
Submitted by Tom Camp on Thu, 2011-01-13 22:392011, the year of the mobile web. One might say that 2010 was the year of the mobile web, what with the proliferation of iPhones and Androids, but 2011 is going to be the year that mobile web becomes a focus rather than an secondary consideration for web developers.
There are probably as many schools of thought on designing for mobile as there are designers, but it really comes down in two camps; mobile first or theme switching. Well, three camps if you include the don't do anything and hope for the best camp, but they don't really count for this conversation.

Images: a quandary
Submitted by Tom Camp on Sat, 2010-11-27 20:46When dealing with a content management system one of the big quandaries is how to allow the client to add images to content. There are a few different approaches and none of them are great.
One option is to use a WYSIWYG editor with an added module like IMCE. I am not very fond of WYSIWYG editors, so this solution isn't ideal for me. There are also a lot of steps to getting the image into the post, so it can be frustrating for less experienced users.
Drupal 6 vs. 7: The New Kid on the Block
Submitted by Tom Camp on Wed, 2010-11-24 20:05Recently Drupal 7 move to a Beta state and I have been getting a lot of questions about upgrading and developing sites on D7. Like everyone else I have my own opinions and like most everyone else I have a blog to spout them.
First of all, what is D7 and what is a "Beta state"? D7 simply is the 7th major version of the Drupal content management system. The current version is Drupal 6. More precisely, version 6.19. That means that the 6th major release has had 19 updates to it. The life cycle of software goes through 3 distinct phases; alpha, beta and release candidate.
